Rapidus

According to cnBeta, Rapidus announced plans to build a semiconductor factory on the Moon around 2040, citing lunar water resources as a reason. The company aims for 2nm mass production by the second half of fiscal 2027, with an initial monthly capacity of 6,000 wafers and about 25,000 wafers after a year, and has connections to over 200 equipment units at its Chitose factory, including ASML EUV lithography machines. The report notes customer interest from Canon and Fujitsu, IBM collaboration on 1nm chips, substantial Japanese government subsidies and private funding, and challenges from TSMC and Samsung capacity comparisons.
