According to IT Home, CCTV News reported that the Sanjiaobei block in the Ordos Basin, located in eastern Ordos and within Shanxi’s Lvliang area, has newly proven coalbed methane reserves exceeding 100 billion cubic meters, enabling an annual production capacity of 1.8 billion cubic meters. The block covers 411.5 square kilometers with coal seams at depths of 1,900 to 2,150 meters. Zhang Lei, deputy chief geologist of PetroChina Coalbed Methane Company, noted that national-registered deep coalbed methane proved reserves in the Ordos Basin have surpassed 400 billion cubic meters, and by 2035 annual production is forecast to reach 40–50 billion cubic meters, with cumulative reserves exceeding 1 trillion cubic meters by 2025.
