Sharp plans to develop network-switchable satellite communication terminals by 2030

According to cnBeta, Sharp plans to develop a network-switchable universal antenna for satellite terminals that can access multiple networks and launch a terminal carrying this antenna by 2030, targeting defense, remote-controlled machinery, and autonomous driving. The company has submitted a plan for the project, which includes government funding and collaboration with SES, and aims to expand satellite-related services in Japan by leveraging Iris2 and other partnerships. The report also notes Sharp’s goal to reach 2000-3000 billion yen in sales from new growth areas by FY2030, and a projected global satellite communications market size of about $2230 billion by 2033.
