Vanguard International Semiconductor and NXP Semiconductors have opened their first 12-inch wafer fab in Singapore through their joint venture VSMC. The facility achieved an initial test wafer yield of at least 99 percent and plans to begin mass production in early 2027. Backed by TSMC as the largest shareholder, the project addresses growing demand across automotive, industrial, and AI infrastructure markets.

According to 36Kr, the TSMC affiliate World Advanced and NXP Semiconductors' joint venture VSMC are considering building a second Singapore chip fab to meet rising demand. VSMC marked the inauguration of its first Singapore plant, which began construction in late 2024 with an expected investment of $7.8 billion; chairman Fang Lu stated that the second plant’s cost is not yet estimable as technology choices are undecided.
