According to FashionUnited UK, River Island has opened a new two-floor, 12,800 square foot River Island concept store at Centre:mk in Milton Keynes, featuring River-Runway installations, an expanded denim department, modernised fitting rooms, and RFID weight-sensing self-service checkouts with WW Smart Fitting Rooms. Mel Aucott, River Island's retail director, says the launch marks an important step in the brand's bricks-and-mortar presence as it expands the concept. The retailer, which returned to pre-tax profitability in 2025 after a 2024 loss, has previously undergone a major restructuring that included 33 store closures and rent reductions.
