This marks Messi's second investment in a Spanish club after buying Cornella in April, with Eldense describing the acquisition as the start of a new chapter in the club's history. Messi, an eight-time Ballon d'Or winner, had previously reached a preliminary agreement in September to become Eldense's majority shareholder, a process now complete.
