According to The Korea Times Business, Korean Air is facing growing maintenance capacity challenges as it integrates with Asiana, expanding to a fleet of over 230 aircraft and planning to launch the merged carrier in December. The airline will employ more than 4,000 maintenance workers and is investing in new in-house and external MRO capacity, including a next-generation hangar at Incheon and an engine MRO center on Yeongjong Island to support anticipated heavy maintenance demand, with several projects planned to become operational by 2027-2029. The merge also increases the need to coordinate maintenance across the three low-cost subsidiaries Jin Air, Air Busan, and Air Seoul, amid limited domestic MRO capacity and continued reliance on overseas providers.
