Rivian announces 50% lifetime carbon reduction for the R2 compared to the R1

According to The Verge, Rivian says its R2 achieves a 50 percent lifetime carbon reduction compared with the R1 lineup, four years ahead of schedule, as outlined in its 2025 impact report. The company notes the R2 uses more renewable energy in production and more recycled and biodegradable materials, with a target to reach 50 percent lifecycle reduction by 2030. Rivian also discusses its AI guidelines, robotaxis for Uber, and plans for an unsupervised driving system as early as next year, while forecasting about 70,000 vehicle deliveries in 2026 driven largely by the R2.
